Books

She said she talks about books in therapy. And what she doesn’t know is—that’s enough.

We were on the way to urgent care.

Nothing major—just a rash that wouldn’t go away.

I told Isabelle that after we were done, I’d have to drop her off and head to my therapy appointment.

She asked, “What do you talk about in therapy?”

I told her a little.

Then I asked, “What do you talk about with your therapist?”

She said, “Books.”

That was it.

She meant it.

And what she doesn’t realize is—that’s enough.

Even talking about books helps.

I know her therapist weaves things into those sessions. Little openings. Small reflections.

And even if Isabelle doesn’t see it yet, it’s working.

Books are how she speaks.

And someone’s listening.
