Breakfast Anyway

He asked. I almost said no. But I said yes—and got a morning I’ll remember.

Anthony asked if we could go out for breakfast.

I didn’t really feel like it.

It had been a long week. I was tired. I had things to do.

But we went.

I’m glad we did.

We talked about school. He told me what’s been good and what hasn’t. He told me what he wants to do when he turns eleven.

Nothing big. Just little things.

But he opened up.

We laughed about something I can’t even remember now. And then the food came, and we kept talking.

And that’s what I would’ve missed—if I’d said no.

It wasn’t about the breakfast. It was about being available when he asked.

I won’t always get that invite.

But I got it today.

And I said yes.
